The A3101 is a series of vane operated flow-meters which attach to the A3030 encoder. 

The fluid flow causes a vane suspended inside a specially shaped housing to adopt an angle which varies with the flowrate.  This angle is measured by means of the permanent magnet inside the vane so that the housing can be a sterile disposable unit. The fluid can be opaque.

The encoder measures the vane angle, corrects the linearity and gives serial digital output in a variety of units as well as analogue outputs. The analogue can be either linear for meters and control or else binary  to operate pumps, valves or alarms directly.
